  40. It's impossible not only because of the missing CPU. You want a faster CPU,
  41. more memory and much more disk space.

  46. Even with an MMU you couldn't install NetBSD on a base 1200. Mainly because
  47. it doesn't have a hard drive and no fast memory. You need to buy a hard
  48. drive (easy) and memory (which almost always comes with an accelerator CPU that
  49. _does_ have an MMU).

  89. That's what I was pointing out. You cannot sell Amigas at PC prices. If
  90. you make it better (faster CPU, more memory, better graphics, whatever)
  91. this will increase the cost beyond even todays pentiums. Today we are
  92. still cheaper than Pentiums (of course with a much smaller system).
  93. Fortunately we can do on this smaller system most of the things that
  94. you do need a Pentium for.

  115. That's your problem. If AT _buys_ 040s or 060s at some price that's not
  116. what the end user has to pay for it and you wouldn't be satisfied with
  117. just the CPU. They and especially the dealers have to make money and
  118. any price difference for the parts gives at least thrice that for the
  119. end-user.

  121. BTW, a 060 does come close to $300 just for the chip.
